They hadn’t gotten that far shadow-traveling, for Nico wanted to know just how much energy he was exhausting on a short trip.

It turned out even such a small feat zapped him of nearly all of it.

Reyna caught him as he all but stumbled out of shadowed portal. They stepped out into a deeply wooded forest. Nico gave a grunt and gave a flimsy wave of his  arms, as if trying to push himself away. Reyna smirked inwardly herself. Men and their need to show off.

The praetor set him down against the closest tree, where he quickly fell asleep. His light snores were as silent as the darkness that had walked through. Chills still ran along her arm at the thought of how the shadows had eclipsed him. At first nothingness and then everything all at once.

Reyna rubbed her arms before turning to face the statue. A small breath escaped her body, regardless of how she had to try to fight. Despite what she had seen, what she had fought against in her life, the mere fact such an prized relic was standing in her mist was breath-taking.

When this is all over, I’m going to need to find away to get Annabeth Chase by my side. Reyna thought with a playful smile. A girl of her brains and looks, while admittedly the daughter of a Goddess Reyna didn’t believe in, was certain worth the trouble of courting. The problem lied with Jackson.

It’s the same as with Jason. Or rather with Piper. She thought, bitterly. A pang of guilt then overcame her, a moment later.

She sighed before beginning to create a small stone fireplace. No point in dwelling over unrequited affections and unsaid words, especially as person in her position of power.

Hours later, Nico awoke to a crackling fire. He blinked several times to catch his bearings, the lost and scared face not missed by his companion.

"Did you know that you mumble in your sleep," Reyna called from near the fire place, cooking some thing over the open flames. She knew better than to recite the words of a sleeping boy. Bianca meant little to her, but the way he had uttered Percy told her plenty. Maybe she wasn’t so different from this Child of Pluto than she had initially believed.
I may or may have not mentioned that I'm absolutely in love with the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series
